NEGRO

The term “negro” refers to a person generally belonging to one of the ethnic groups originating from Sub-Saharan Africa, and characterized by dark skin pigmentation. In a broader sense, it can apply to other ethnic groups with similar somatic characteristics, such as Negrotis from the Philippines, or Aboriginals from Australia. Although its etymology and its original, technical meaning are neither derogatory nor vulgar, under the influence of similar German or English terms, it took on negative connotations also in the Italian language. The English term “negro”, probably borrowed from Spanish, was frequently used in the United States during the importation of Black slaves from Africa in the 19th century. In the early 20th century, this term was introduced in literature apparently by the American sociologist William Du Bois, and then flanked by the strictly English term “nigger”. The switch of both terms from a neutral meaning to an offensive connotation occurred in the US, and later in the rest of the world, starting from the second half of the 20th century. The Italian term “negro” is etymologically equivalent to the adjective “black” (nero, in Italian), and originally had this meaning. Examples of this use of the term are found in Petrarca, Aristotele and Carducci.

Il termine negro indica una persona generalmente appartenente a una delle etnie originarie dell’Africa subsahariana e caratterizzato dalla pigmentazione scura della pelle. In senso più ampio, può applicarsi ad altri gruppi etnici con caratteristiche somatiche analoghe, come ad esempio i negritos delle Filippine e gli australiani aborigeni. Sebbene la sua etimologia e il suo significato originale e tecnico non siano né dispregiativi né volgari, sotto l’influenza di simili termini in tedesco e soprattutto in inglese la parola ha assunto col tempo connotazioni negative anche nella lingua italiana. Il termine inglese “negro”, così come scrive, probabilmente preso in prestito dalla lingua spagnola, venne spesso utilizzato degli Stati Uniti d’America nel periodo dell’importanza di schiavi neri dall’Africa del XIX secolo, hai riprese in letteratura agli inizi del XX secolo, dove si ritiene fu introdotto dal sociologo americano William Du Bois, quindi affiancato dal termine più propriamente inglese “nigger”. Il passaggio poi di entrambi i termini da significato neutro a connotazione offensiva avvenne sempre in teoria americana, e successivamente nel mondo, a partire dalla seconda metà del XX secolo. Il termine italiano negro è etimologicamente equivalente all’aggettivo nero e, in origine, aveva tale significato; esempi di quest’uso del termine si trova tra l’altro in Petrarca, Aristotele e Carducci.

PROSPETTIVA

PERSPECTIVE

Perspective is the word that I propose to make us reason on the fact that our thoughts, our way of thinking, and sometimes even our orientation, are closely linked to the image that we are presented with on a topic, to its history. We tend to visualize an individual, a group, or an element, and our mind immediately applies a judgement on it, even if we don’t admit it. In my opinion, this happens because the images that we see are not real: they are a projection of the reality that the media wants to show us from the most captivating point of view. The first and the second photos were taken in the same circumstances, and they differ only from the photographer’s perspective. I find this topic very profound, because in times of pandemic, with all that is happening, the media take advantage of scaring people – TV news talk only about that. Ok, why should they do it? It is a hot topic now, isn’t it? Yes, it is. But let’s leave out the fact that evil in the world existed before the pandemic, the huge difference is that once evil only affected the weakest, most vulnerable and socially oppressed people, but now we are all on the same boat, regardless of social status, religion, skin colour, or sexual orientation. It took a pandemic to show all of us that humans are part of one species, and this is regrettable. We talk so much about politically correct, respect, and unity, but these words are just palliatives. As we already know, humans start conflicts by nature; we are warmongers. And now that we are in a situation where evil strikes with no distinctions, we keep judging people, we glare who walks alone on the street at night with their face mask down (I give this example as I have experienced on myself: once, walking at 9 p.m. on a completely desert street, a woman behind a fence yelled at me to wear my face mask. Nice, isn’t it?). Recently, I have read about an experiment carried out by a scientist some years ago, a sort of parable of what we have been living for a year now. The scientist put in a display cabinet a hundred of ants, and another hundred of red ants. He left them there for a few hours noticing that they were able to pass by each other without ever colliding. Then, the scientist shook the cabinet. In this situation, without knowing what happened, the ants started to attack the red ones, and vice versa. I find this story emblematic, because from my point of view we are not too far from that. In a complex system we are able to cooperate, but in a pandemic we stop questioning about what is right, and we point the finger at those, like me, who walk alone at night with their mask down. This is why I chose these two photos: within the system we live in, we give much credit to what media and TV news offer us, trusting them blindly; but, at the end, there is a gap between social media and reality, and many times we don’t realize it.

Prospettiva è la parola che ripropongo qui, per farci ragionare sul fatto che il nostro pensiero, il nostro ragionamento, e talvolta anche il nostro orientamento, è strettamente legato all’immagine che ci viene proposta di un argomento, alla sua storia. Tendiamo a visualizzare un individuo, un gruppo, o un elemento e anche se non lo ammettiamo, fin da subito la nostra mente applica un giudizio su di esso. Questo perché le immagini che noi vediamo non sono reali a mio avviso, sono una proiezione della realtà colta sotto il punto di vista più accattivante rispetto a ciò che i media ci vogliono mostrare. La prima foto e la seconda sono state scattate nella medesima circostanza con l’unica differenza della prospettiva che il fotografo ha proiettato. Trovo il tema assai profondo poiché in tempi di pandemia, con tutto ciò che sta accadendo, ai media fa comodo intimorire le persone, i telegiornali non parlano d’altro. Certo perché dovrebbero? È un tema attuale giusto? Sì, lo è. Ma tralasciamo il fatto che il male nel mondo esisteva da prima della pandemia. La differenza abissale è che fino a prima il male colpiva solamente le persone più deboli, più vulnerabili e socialmente oppresse, ma adesso indipendentemente dallo status sociale, dalla religione, dal colore della pelle, dall’orientamento sessuale, siamo tutti nella stessa barca. Ci è voluta una pandemia per mostrare tutti noi esseri umani come una specie unica, e questo è deplorevole. Parliamo molto del politically correct, del rispetto, dell’unitarietà, ma è un palliativo. L’uomo come già è stato appurato entra in conflitto con gli altri di natura, siamo un popolo guerrafondaio. E adesso che siamo nella condizione in cui il male colpisce senza fare distinzioni, riusciamo comunque a giudicare le persone, a lanciare lo sguardo storto a chi cammina da solo per strada la sera con la mascherina abbassata (faccio questo esempio perché l’ho provato su di me. Camminando alle 9 di sera in una strada completamente deserta, una donna da dietro il suo cancello mi ha gridato di alzare la mascherina, bello vero). Tempo fa ho letto di un esperimento svolto da uno scienziato anni fa, una sorta di parabola con ciò che stiamo vivendo da un anno a questa parte. In una teca lo scienziato ha inserito un centinaio di formiche, e un centinaio di formiche rosse. Lasciandole lì per qualche ora notò che si passavano accanto senza mai scontrarsi le une con le altre. Poi però lo scienziato ha preso la teca e l’ha scossa un po. Le formiche di fronte a questo scenario, senza darsi spiegazione di cosa sia accaduto hanno iniziato ad attaccare le formiche rosse e viceversa. Trovo questa storiella emblematica, poiché dal mio punto di vista non siamo troppo lontani da loro. In un sistema complesso riusciamo a collaborare, e in una pandemia smettiamo di chiederci cosa sia giusto, ma puntiamo il dito su chi come me passa per la strada di sera con la mascherina abbassata. Questo è il motivo per cui ho scelto le due foto. Perché nel sistema in cui ci troviamo, diamo molto credito a ciò che i media, i telegiornali ci offrono, e ci fidiamo ciecamente di essi, ma a conti fatti, tra i social media e la realtà c’è un divario, e spesso non ce ne accorgiamo.

PUTTANA

WHORE

“Whore” is a heavy word. It is a vulgar way to refer to a woman who, for several reasons in her life, gives her body away for money. To me, this word is used too much. It includes many other words – this is probably the most used one. But what if you try to find a word with the same meaning for men? Whoremonger? A man who goes to bed with whores, so it is always women who are discriminated. Try to find other words – you will not find them. I have been told this word in several situations, even when I was just rejecting a man much older than me, or when I was just walking down the street and I answered back to catcalling, or when I gave the finger to the boy who whistled from his car, or when I was wearing a skirt. “Whore” is the word they give you because you are a woman who decides to reply; with this word they label you even if you did nothing, just because you are a woman. I am pretty tired of people calling me with this word just because I said what I wanted to say, and I am tired of hearing many other things: “Well done, you are a woman with balls…”; “Who knows what she did to achieve her goals…”; “Well, she is smart though is a woman…”; “But if you go out dressed up like that…”; “You should be happy if men look at you…”; “Leave it, this is for men only…”; “Well, you asked for it…”. Anyway, luckily they are just words, right? But what if words become actions? Think about walking down the street alone without feeling safe, or going out at night only if accompanied by someone else because you are scared, or hearing someone catcalling you because you have skinny jeans, or constantly watching your back because you don’t know if that man is still following you; think of the hands of a stranger, a slap, a punch, or a rape. Just because you are female, just because they think you are a whore.

Puttana è una parola forte, è un modo volgare per indicare una donna che per vari motivi nella sua vita dona il proprio corpo per soldi, e secondo me questa parola viene utilizzata fin troppo. Questa parola ne racchiude molte altre, è quella forse più utilizzata, ma se provi a cercare una parola con lo stesso significato al maschile? Puttaniere? Un uomo che va a letto con le puttane, è sempre discriminatorio per la donna, cercane altre…sicuramente non ne troverai. È una parola che mi è stata detta in varie situazioni, eppure, magari stavo solo respingendo un signore molto più grande di me, magari stavo solo camminando per strada e ho risposto ad un commento non richiesto, magari ho solo alzato il dito medio al ragazzo che mi ha fischiato dalla sua macchina o magari stavo solo con una gonna. Puttana è la parola che ti affibbiano quando sei donna e decidi di rispondere, puttana è la parola con cui ti etichettano anche senza aver fatto nulla, solo perché sei donna. Sono un pò stanca sentirmi chiamare così solo per aver detto quello che volevo dire e sono stanca di sentire tante altre cose: “Brava, sei una donna con le palle…”,”chissà quello che ha fatto per raggiungere i sui scopi…”,”Beh intelligente per essere una donna…”,”eh però se vai fuori vestita così…”,”dovresti essere contenta se ti guardano..”,“lascia stare sono cose da maschi…”,”Eh però te la sei cercata…” Ma per fortuna che sono solo parole, no? Pensa se al posto di puttana e aver soltanto parlato, avessero agito, pensa camminare per strada da sola e non sentirti sicura, pensa poter uscire di sera sempre e solo accompagnata per paura, pensa a sentire un fischio perché hai dei jeans troppo aderenti, pensa guardarti continuamente le spalle perché non sai se quel signore ti segue ancora, pensa alle mani di uno sconosciuto pensa ad uno schiaffo, ad un pugno ad uno stupro. Solo perché sei femmina, solo perché tanto per loro sei una puttana.

RAZZA

RACE

“Race”. I have chosen this word, that was just one among many that I had in mind. To this term, we do not give due weight. A form of verbal violence, that to me is equal to a physical one. A violence that passes through the words that we decide to use, adjusting them every time according to whom we talk to. For example, starting from behaviours, I frequently travel by train and I always find a train manager who usually talks to adults in a polite way, unless they are black. It is not a tragedy, but it is like admitting to have a different consideration of the other, or at least not the same respect. All the words that we use have a weight; some words more than others. For example, “black”, “coloured”, “foreigner”, “immigrant”, which are part of a set of words reflecting the racist side of an individual. In Latin, niger means both negro and black. In Italian, for long time the word negro was absolutely neutral; it was not an offense. But those were different times, and it was the word used to define African, coloured, or dark skinned people. But nowadays, when we refer to someone defining them “coloured”, we immediately file them, cancelling their life story, their projects in life. In my opinion, we could talk of the others simply as people. Otherwise, we should also refer to ourselves saying “that one blonde”, “that one with brown hair”, “that one tall”, or “that one skinny”. Physical features are not the main thing. Characterizing people with this kind of attribute is already a first step towards some form of discrimination. We are not forced to consider the colour of the skin as the fundamental trait to define a person. In fact, I have noticed more than once that children, who since kindergarten have grown among peers of different cultures, usually don’t define their schoolmates according to their skin colour: it is simply a fact. For sure, some words bear a negative meaning (as for the word “negro” today), but obviously what is important is the meaning you give to words, and your mental attitude when you use them. When we were children, we did not have the ability to reason on things: we trusted the words used by our parents, though their times, values, ideologies, backgrounds were different. There is no excuse for the insane behaviour of those discriminating others. At our age, we are supposed to be able to reason intelligently, without debasing ourselves at the level of people who pretend to be superior with the term “race”. Italian is a precise, clear language that leaves nothing undefined. And so, today more than ever, words are important. If from one side we know that words can change meaning in time, on the other side we must remember to confront each other, to use words consciously, and to respect the other.

Ho scelto questa parola, una tra le le tante che avevo in testa. Un termine a cui non viene dato il giusto peso. Una forma di violenza verbale, che metto alla pari di una fisica. Una violenza che passa dalle parole che scegliamo di pronunciare, modificandole ogni volta in base alla persona a cui ci rivolgiamo. Partendo dagli atteggiamenti, per esempio, a me capita spesso di viaggiare in treno e trovo sempre il controllore, che a un adulto si rivolge dando del “lei”, se invece si tratta di un adulto con la pelle scura gli viene dato del “tu”. Non è gravissimo ma è come ammettere di considerare un po’ meno l’altro, sicuramente non con lo stesso rispetto. Tutte le parole che pronunciamo hanno un peso, alcune più della altre. È il caso di «nero», «di colore», «straniero», «immigrato» che fanno parte di una cerchia di parole che rispecchia la parte razzista di un individuo. In latino niger significa sia negro che nero. In italiano è vero che per molto tempo la parola negro era assolutamente neutra, non c’era un insulto direttamente collegato a quel termine. Ma era un’altra epoca e quella era la parola per definire le persone africane, di colore, di carnagione scura. Ma oggigiorno quando ci riferiamo a una persona definendola «di colore», immediatamente la schediamo, ne annulliamo la storia, il progetto di vita. Basterebbe secondo me parlare degli altri come semplicemente di persone, dovremmo allora dire di ognuno di noi: quello biondo, quello moro, quello alto, quello magro. Le caratteristiche fisiche non sono la cosa principale, connotare le persone con un attributo di quel genere è già un primo passo verso una qualche forma di discriminazione. Non siamo obbligati a considerare il colore della pelle come il tratto fondamentale per definire una persona. Infatti, ho notato più di una volta che bambini che fin dall’asilo sono cresciuti in mezzo a coetanei di svariate etnie di solito non definiscono i loro compagni in base al colore: è un dato di fatto. Sicuramente, ci sono parole cariche in sé di valenze negative (è appunto il caso oggi della parola “negro”); ma naturalmente conta il senso che si dà alle parole e l’atteggiamento mentale di chi le usa. Da piccoli non avevamo la capacità di ragionare, ci affidavamo esclusivamente alle parole dette dai nostri genitori che però hanno vissuto in un altra epoca, con valori, ideologie e una storia diversa. Nulla giustifica il comportamento assurdo di chi discrimina un altro. A quest’età dovremmo essere in grado di ragionare in modo intelligente e non abbassarci a persone che con il termine razza vogliono definirsi superiori. La lingua italiana è precisa, chiara, non lascia nulla di indefinito. E sì, oggi più che mai le parole sono importanti. Se da una parte sappiamo che le parole possono cambiare valenza nel tempo, dall’altra non dobbiamo dimenticare di confrontarci, di usarle con consapevolezza e rispetto dell’altro.

UGUAGLIANZA

EQUALITY

The word I have chosen is equality. To me, this word means that any member of a community must be considered in the same way, with the same rights and values, and the possibility to express themselves freely without being judged. Unfortunately, many people not knowing the meaning of this word give it a wrong interpretation, selecting and judging those who may have a different complexion, speak a different language, or simply like someone of the same sex. These characteristics have nothing to do with one’s personality or intelligence. These people don’t know the real meaning of this word, because besides being close-minded, many times fear and ignorance take over reason – diversity scares them, intimidates them, and pushes them to behave wrongly, discriminating people with a different culture or habits. What they don’t get, in the end, is that we are all humans made of skin and bones. By equality I mean that a person of any nationality who goes to another country must be treated exactly the same as any citizen of that country, regardless of their skin colour, their sex, or their sexual and religious orientation.

La parola che ho scelto è uguaglianza. Per me questa parola significa che qualsiasi membro di una collettività deve essere considerato allo stesso modo, con gli stessi diritti e valori, la possibilità di potersi esprimere liberamente senza essere giudicati. Purtroppo molte persone che non sanno ciò che vuol dire la interpretano male, che pretendono di scegliere e giudicare chi magari ha una carnagione diversa dalla sua o parla una lingua diversa o semplicemente gli piace qualcuno del proprio sesso. queste caratteristiche non hanno nulla a che fare con la personalità o l’intelligenza di una persona. Queste persone non sanno il vero significato di questa parola perché oltre alla chiusura mentale che hanno tante volte l’ignoranza o la paura prende posto alla ragione, perché il diverso fa paura li mette in soggezione e li porta a comportarsi in modi sbagliati e a discriminare le persone che hanno una cultura differente o un modo di comportarsi non uguale al suo, la cosa che non capiscono è che infondo siamo tutti esseri umani formati da pelle ed ossa. Con uguaglianza io intendo che una persona di qualsiasi nazionalità che va in un altro paese deve essere trattato esattamente uguale a qualsiasi cittadino di quella nazione senza distinzioni per il colore di pelle, da maschio o femmina dall’orientamento sessuale politico e religioso.

UNICITÁ

UNIQUENESS

Every corner of the world is inhabited by people with different appearance, people with unique, peculiar features. For example, the inhabitants of East Asia are known all over the world for their particular almond-shaped eyes and their yellowish complexion; the inhabitants of Russia are known for their severe and tough lineaments and their usually light-coloured hair and eyes; or the inhabitants of South Asia have similar traits to those of East Asia, namely their typical eyes, but with a darker skin tone. Africa’s inhabitants have darker skin (whose tones range from beige to dark chocolate), and they typically have wide naris and full lips, unlike Eurasia’s population. I want to underline that I refer to the majority of the population, not to its totality: in fact, South Africa is populated by many people with light-coloured skin. Europeans are characterized by a light complexion, sometimes tending to olive skin, especially in the Mediterranean areas. Another peculiarity is the shape of their nose, often presenting a sort of “small hump”. As for the Americans, the situation is more varied, as many have the same appearance of Caucasians, others of Africans, and many others, coming from South America, have different characteristics deriving from the appearance of natives who have olive skin. This image represents all the inhabitants of the world in all their peculiarities and uniqueness, because although we have common characteristics, we are all different and unique. I think that this is a basic concept that can make us feel good, accepted, loved by others, but especially by ourselves. Being able to acknowledge the uniqueness of other persons is essential to really appreciate beauty and singularity.

Ogni angolo del globo è abitato da persone di svariato aspetto, persone che hanno caratteristiche uniche che le differenziano le une dalle altre. Per fare un esempio: gli abitanti dell’Asia dell’est sono riconosciuti in tutto il mondo per i loro peculiari occhi a mandorla e per il colorito giallognolo, gli abitanti della Russia sono riconosciuti per i loro lineamenti duri e severi e tendenzialmente per i capelli e gli occhi chiari. Gli abitanti del sud-asiatico presentano tratti simili agli abitanti dell’est asiatico, ossia i caratteristici occhi a mandorla ma un tono della pelle più scuro. Gli abitanti dell’Africa hanno la pelle più scura (i cui toni variano dal beige al cioccolato fondente), un’altra loro peculiarità è la larghezza delle narici e la carnosità delle labbra rispetto alle popolazioni dell’Eurasia. Ci tengo a specificare che dicendo ciò, mi riferisco alla maggioranza della popolazione e non alla sua totalità: infatti nel Sud Africa vivono moltissime persone dal colore della pelle chiara. Gli europei sono caratterizzati da una carnagione chiara, a volte tendente all’olivastro soprattutto nelle zone mediterranee, altra loro peculiarità è la forma del naso che spesso presenta una sorta di “gobbetta”. Per quanto riguarda gli americani la situazione è più varia in quanto molti hanno l’aspetto dei caucasici, altri degli africani e molti altri, provenienti dal Sud America hanno caratteristiche diverse che derivano dall’aspetto dei nativi, la carnagione della pelle è olivastra. Questa immagine rappresenta tutti gli abitanti del mondo in ogni peculiarità e unicità, perché nonostante le nostre caratteristiche comuni siamo tutti diversi e unici nel nostro genere. Questo penso sia un concetto fondamentale per tutti per sentirsi bene, accettati, amati dagli altri ma soprattutto da se stessi. È basilare che tutti siano in grado di riconoscere le unicità delle altre persone per apprezzarne davvero la bellezza e la singolarità.

Annalisa Sacchi

Annalisa Sacchi è Professoressa associata presso l’Università Iuav di Venezia, dove dal 2017 dirige il corso di Laurea Magistrale in Teatro e Arti performative. È Principal Investigator dell’ERC Starting Grant “INCOMMON. In praise of community. Shared creativity in arts and politics in Italy (1959-1979)”. Dopo aver ricevuto il Dottorato di ricerca presso l’Alma Mater Studiorum di Bologna, è stata ricercatrice post-doc presso la Queen Mary University di Londra e il Tisch Department of the Arts della New York University. È stata Lauro De Bosis Fellow e Lecturer ad Harvard University (2012-2014), e nel 2016-17 fellow scholar presso UCL University a Londra. Tra le sue pubblicazioni: La performance della memoria (con F. Bortoletti, Baskerville, 2018); Il posto del re. Estetiche del teatro di regia nel modernismo e nel contemporaneo (Bulzoni, 2012); Shakespeare per la Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio (ETS, 2014), Itinera. Annalisa Sacchi is Associate Professor at IUAV University of Venice where, from 2017, she also serves as the Chair of the Master Degree Course in Theatre and Performing Arts. She is the Principal investigator of the ERC Starting Grant funded project “INCOMMON. In praise of community. Shared creativity in arts and politics in Italy (1959-1979)”. After receiving her PhD in Theatre Studies from University of Bologna in 2007, she developed her research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen Mary University and New York University, Tisch Department of the Arts. In 2012/2013 she was awarded the Lauro De Bosis Postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University, and in 2013/2014 she obtained a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Drama Committee. Among her publications are the books Il posto del re. Eleonora Bonino

Eleonora Bonino (1994) vive e lavora a Venezia come ricercatrice e artista. Di formazione architetto, la sua ricerca si sposta poi verso lo studio dell’immagine e delle tecniche della rappresentazione. Nel 2019 Vince la borsa di studio I-Portunus grazie alla quale trascorre due mesi a Berlino nello studio dell’artista Peter Welz. Nello stesso anno inizia un percorso artistico con Celeste Messina con la quale crea il duo Eta Carinae, che indaga il rapporto tra corpi, macchine e strumenti di ripresa. Nel 2020 cura l’evento e l’omonima pubblicazione Lonely at the Party, una festa per corpi distanti e intoccabili. Da qualche anno la sua ricerca teorica si concentra sul tema della documentazione videografica dell’azione performativa nella scena contemporanea europea. Collabora con l’Università Iuav di Venezia e con il laboratorio MeLa, con il quale progetta e disegna piattaforme per il web. Nel 2021 ottiene una borsa di ricerca per il progetto europeo PassTheMic! Decolonizing education through arts, dove si occupa della progettazione e del disegno della piattaforma digitale, e della documentazione multimediale del progetto a Venezia.

Eleonora Bonino (1994) lives and works in Venice as a researcher and artist. Trained as an architect, she therefore moved on to study images and techniques of representation. In 2019 she won the I-Portunus scholarship, and she spent two months in Berlin in the studio of the artist Peter Welz. At the same time, she developed an artistic research with Celeste Messina: together they form the performing duo Eta Carinae, where they investigate the relationship between bodies, machines and shooting devices. In 2020 she curated the event and the homonymous publication Lonely at the Party, a party for distant and untouchable bodies. For some years, her theoretical research has been focusing on the theme of videographic documentation of performative action in the contemporary European scene. She now collaborates with the IUAV University of Venice and with the MeLa laboratory, where she designs digital platforms. In 2021 she obtained a research grant for the European project PassTheMic! Decolonizing education through arts to design their digital platform, and the multimedia documentation of the project in Venice.

Anna Serlenga

Anna Serlenga (1982) lavora sia nella pratica teatrale e performativa che nella ricerca teorica. Diplomata all’Università IUAV di Venezia in Scienze e Tecniche del Teatro, è dottore di ricerca in Cultural Studies presso l’Università di Palermo. Ha lavorato come assistente alla regia per Gigi Gherzi (BABA, giugno 2009, Festival Da vicino nessuno è normale, Teatro la Cucina, Milano) e per Pietro Floridia (Report dalla città fragile prod. Olinda et ITC Teatro dell’Argine, maggio 2011, Teatro la Cucina, Milano). Come regista, è stata selezionata ad importanti premi nazionali (Premio Kantor, finalista, 2010, CRT, Milano; Premio Scenario, semifinalista, 2013). Dal 2012 al 2018 vive e lavora in Tunisia, dove ha fondato il collettivo artistico multidisciplinare Corps Citoyen con il quale vince finanziamenti internazionali e partecipa a diverse Biennali (Dream City Festival nel 2017; Jaou, Manifesta 12, Valletta 2018 e Matera Capitale della Cultura nel 2018; Kamel Laazar Grant nel 2019), e dove insegna alla Facoltà di Scienze Umane dell’Università di Sfax. Ha collaborato, in qualità di formatrice teatrale, con l’Institut Supérieur d’Art Dramatique (ISAD) e l’Istituto di Cultura Italiana di Tunisi. Dal 2018 rientra in Italia, dove collabora come assistente al laboratorio condotto da MOTUS per Iuav – Teatro e Arti Performative, dove è successivamente progettista e networker europea fino a fine 2019. Attualmente vive a Milano, è assegnista di ricerca post-dottorato presso il Dipartimento di Arti performative dell’Università Iuav di Venezia con il progetto PTM!Decolonizing education through arts, regista teatrale per CORPS CITOYEN e co-direttrice artistica del centro d’arte decoloniale Milano Mediterranea.

Anna Serlenga (1982), works both in the theatrical and performative practice that in theoretical research. She graduated at the University IUAV of Venice in Performance Studies and she has a PhD in Cultural Studies at the University of Palermo. As director, she was selected to important national awards (Kantor Award finalist, 2010, CRT, Milan; Scenario Award, semi-finalist, 2013). From 2012 to 2018 she lives and works in Tunisia, where she founded the multidisciplinary artistic collective Corps Citoyen that participates in several Biennale (Dream City Festival in 2017; Jaou, Manifesta 12, Valletta 2018 and Matera Capitale della Cultura in 2018; Kamel Laazar Grant in 2019), and where she teaches at the Faculty of Human Sciences of the University of Sfax. She has collaborated, as a theatre trainer, with the Institut Supérieur d’Art Dramatique (ISAD) and the Institute of Italian Culture in Tunis. In 2018 she came back to Italy, where she collaborated as an assistant in the workshop led by MOTUS for Iuav – Theatre and Performing Arts, where she is subsequently a European project manager and networker until the end of 2019. Currently living in Milan, she is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Performing Arts of the Iuav University of Venice with the project PTM!Decolonizing education through arts, theatre director for CORPS CITOYEN and artistic co-director of the decolonial art centre Milano Mediterranea.

NEGRO

I have chosen the word “negro” because is an expression that is widely used, heard all over the world, but in a derogatory way. The real meaning of the word “negro” is related to one of the main anthropological subdivisions of humanity: natives of the largest part of the sub-Saharan Africa, whose most striking and traditionally emphasized feature is their dark skin, due to abundance of pigment. This term, heard as derogatory or discriminatory, is often replaced by black. In recent decades, the word to be used to describe people with dark skin has been largely debated. From the 20th century, alternatives to the traditional terms negro and nigger began to emerge in some American milieu. For example, one of the oldest American anti-racist associations, founded in 1909, was called as “National Association for the Advancement of Colored People” – this is the first use in history of one of the most common euphemism used as an alternative term (translated in Italian as di colore). The gradual rejection of the terms negro and nigger by the Afro-American population began to strengthen mostly because these terms were born during slavery, and so were historically associated with racial discrimination itself. However, the term negro continued to be used for decades. For example, in France in the classic piece Le petite nègre by Dèbusy (1914), or in US by intellectuals of the artistic and cultural movement “Harlem Renaissance” in some titles linked to the movement, such as The New Negro, an anthology published in 1925, or Negro World, a weekly magazine founded in New York by Marcus Garvey, spokesperson of the “Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League”. This goes also for the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, mainly in America and Europe. I believe that we should use the word “black” in an educational way, not in a derogatory sense, because some people are much smarter than the “white” ones, as we can see in movies (I forgot their titles) like that one about an Afro-American woman working at Nasa who was able to do mathematical calculations that no white member could do, or the other one about Jesse Owens, another Afro-American who won the Olympic Games during the Second World War.

Poi vale anche negli anni sessanta, settanta, ottanta e novanta soprattutto in America e in Europa. Io credo che sia meglio usare la parola “NERO “in modo educativo da non disprezzare perché ci sono delle persone che assai sono più intelligenti delle persone di colore “bianco “come vediamo anche nei film (il nome non me lo ricordo) di una donna afroamericana che riuscì a fare dei calcoli matematici nella Nasa che nessun membro bianco riuscì a calcolare come fece lei o anche durante la seconda guerra mondiale di Jesse Owens che vinse nelle olimpiadi (di corsa) che è sempre afroamericano.

I have chosen “music” – not as a word, but as a concept. We could spend a lot of time talking about this topic, but to make it short, there are so many different genres in music, each one with its own peculiarities, and this is exactly the point where I want to start from. The fact is that each genre must be played by a person with very precise and visible characteristics. For example, I think that 99% of people playing rock music are mainly white, especially from Europe, England, United States, and Australia; while we never see rock bands (I mean, the most famous ones) of Asians, Russians, Blacks, Indians, etc. I have always wondered why. Another example is that, until recently, Blues, Rap, etc. were seen as genres for Black people, or recently another new genre that has emerged, called K-Pop, is played mainly by Asians, especially Koreans. I just want to say that it is curious to see all these “formations” from one side to the other. Anyway, I want to say that my intention is not to side with one or another, and say what is right or wrong. To me, it depends a lot on the culture of each country in the world.

Io ho scelto la MUSICA non come parola ma come concetto. Ci sarebbe un sacco da parlare sull’argomento musica ma per farla in breve nella musica ci sono moltissimi generi differenti, con ognuno delle caratteristiche differenti… ed è proprio qui che voglio attaccarmi con il mio pensiero. Il fatto che su un genere debba per forza esserci un determinato tipo persona con delle caratteristiche molto precise e molto visibili. Per esempio sul rock credo che nel 99% delle persone che lo fanno siano principalmente bianchi principalmente nell’area che riguarda l’Europa, Inghilterra, Stati Uniti e Australia; mentre non si vede quasi mai gruppi rock (intendo quelli più conosciuti) di Asiatici, Russi, di persone di colore, di Indiani, ecc… e mi sono sempre chiesto il perché di questa cosa. Oppure per esempio fino a poco tempo fa il blues, rap, ecc… si è visto più un genere da persone di colore, oppure da un po’ di tempo è uscito un altro nuovo genere che sarebbe il k-pop che è fatto solo da Asiatici, principalmente dai Coreani. Con questo voglio solo dire che è strano che ci siano tutti questi “schieramenti” da una parte all’altra. Comunque io ci tengo a dire che non voglio dar ragione a nessuna delle due cose come giusto o sbagliato, ma appunto secondo me dipende molto dalla cultura di ogni paese del mondo.

Anna Brusarosco

Anna Brusarosco (1979), dal 2017 lavora come project e communication manager presso il Servizio ricerca dell’Università Iuav di Venezia. Laureata in Scienze ambientali all’Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia, è dottore di ricerca in Geografia presso l’Università di Padova, dove ha insegnato Geografia umana e Geografia sociale. Durante il percorso accademico, svolge attività di ricerca in Marocco (Université Mohammed V Agdal di Rabat), a Parigi (Université VII Diderot) e in Bosnia Erzegovina. Dal 2011 al 2015 collabora con diverse associazioni e ONG italiane, sviluppando progetti di cooperazione nei Balcani, in Africa e in America Latina e di educazione e sensibilizzazione in Europa, sui temi dello sviluppo rurale, diritto all’acqua, cambiamento climatico e migrazioni ambientali, empowerment femminile, stili di vita sostenibili. Nello stesso periodo collabora anche con il Campus dell’Università Ca’ Foscari a Treviso nello sviluppo del progetto “Ca’ Foscari Sostenibile”, con Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso e tiene corsi di progettazione. Dal 2015 al 2017 è responsabile del settore Educazione alla Cittadinanza Mondiale e Sensibilizzazione della ONG Centro di Volontariato Internazionale di Udine.

Anna Brusarosco (1979), works as project and communication manager at Research service at Iuav University of Venice since 2017. She graduated at Ca’ Foscari University in Environmental sciences and she has a PhD in Geography at University of Padua, where she taught Human and Social Geography. During her academic path, she carried out research activities in Morocco (Université Mohammed V Agdal of Rabat), Paris (Université VII Diderot) and in Bosnia Herzegovina. From 2011 to 2015 she collaborated with several Italian associations and NGOs, developing cooperation projects in the Balkans, Africa and Latin America, and education and awareness raising projects in Europe, on the issues of rural development, water rights, climate change and environmental migrations, women’s empowerment and sustainable lifestyles. In the same period she collaborated with the Campus of Ca’ Foscari University in Treviso developing the project “Sustainable Ca’ Foscari”, with Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso and she taught project development courses. That women in general are sexualized, I think that’s something we should have a consensus on, we have to agree on this, the data is out there. But I feel that, when it comes to some cultures, some ethnicities, the fact is even worse. Mainly because during decolonization some stereotypes were created, that we are forced to achieve, of how we should be, and our bodies have been sexualized. By “we” I’m mainly referring to black culture, which I fit in, but I also feel that Latino culture has this problem. This is something that has to be talked about, because it ends up creating some insecurities, which unfortunately we feel. For example, in the way we feel loved, there is usually always this insecurity, does the person love us for who we are? Does he/she really want to know us or is simply showing us around because we supposedly have a “good” body, as they say, in a very sexualized and uncomfortable way… Walking down the street we also feel that people dream about your body type… Women in general are extremely sexualized and people sometimes see it as a compliment, and it’s not a compliment, women shouldn’t be sexualized that way … And much less… now, speaking of where I belong, even in our culture we are seen as “edible”, we are not seen as beings who deserve to be loved but as beings who are there for sex or whatever, or we are called “whore”, simply because we have these characteristics… And when we are part of this culture and we don’t have these characteristics, we are seen as wrong, as false, as if… we shouldn’t exist

Que as mulheres no geral são sexualizadas, eu acho que isso é algo que todos nós temos que ter consenso, e somos obrigados a aceitar, os dados estão lá por isso. Mas eu sinto que quando se trata de algumas culturas, algumas etnias, o fato vai ser ainda maior. Principalmente porque devido à descolonização criaram-se alguns estereótipos que nós somos obrigadas a alcançar de como nós devemos ser, e os nosso corpos foram sexualizados. Com “nós” eu estou-me a referir principalmente à cultura negra, na qual eu me encaixo, mas eu também sinto que a cultura latina tem este problema. Isso é algo que tem que ser falado, porque acaba por criar algumas inseguranças per cima de nós, que infelizmente estão lá presentes. Por exemplo na forma como nós vamos sentir amados, normalmente tem sempre esta insegurança, será que a pessoa nós ama por quem nós somos? Quer nós conhecer ou simplesmente está lá para mostrar às pessoas que namora com alguém que supostamente tem um corpo “bom”, como eles chamam que o nosso corpo é bom, de uma forma muita sexualizada e que é desconfortável… Andar na rua e sentir também que as pessoas sonham por ti, por o teu tipo de corpo… As mulheres no geral são extremamente sexualizadas e as pessoas às vezes veem isso como um elogio, e não é um elogio, as mulheres não deveriam ser sexualizadas dessa forma… E muito menos… agora, falando de onde eu pertenço, até mesmo na nossa cultura nós somo vistas como comestíveis, não somos vistas como seres que merecem de ser amados mas como seres que servem lá para fazer sexo ou para qualquer outra coisa, ou somos chamadas de “puta”, simplesmente porque temos estas características como nós… E quando nós fazemos parte desta cultura e não temos estas características como nós, somos vistos como errados, como falsos, como… que não devemos existir.

The word “acceptance” means “to admit”: to admit into a community, a group, a university, or a category. However, this term is misused. Nowadays, we use it mainly to tell a person that we accept them as they are, with their characteristics, their bodies, their sexual orientations, their personalities, or their personal tastes. I believe that the word “acceptance” should be used only and solely in its real meaning, established by the Italian dictionary, rather than as the majority of the people use it today. Saying to someone “I accept you as you are” is like saying “Look, you have these characteristics that are out of the ordinary, but normal, but I like you anyway”. This is totally wrong, because there are no wrong or right persons, good or bad characteristics. Each of us is different, and the world is beautiful because it takes all sorts to make it. The beauty of humanity lies exactly in the fact that each one of us has their own characteristics and tastes. In my opinion, we should think before talking and learn to use words better, giving due weight to what we are saying.

La parola accettazione significa ammettere: ammettere all’interno di una comunità, in un gruppo piuttosto che all’università o in un ordine. Tuttavia però, questo termine viene usato in modo improprio. Al giorno d’oggi si utilizza principalmente per dire ad una persona che noi l’accettiamo per com’è, per le sue caratteristiche, per il suo fisico, per il suo orientamento sessuale, per la sua personalità o per i suoi gusti personali. Io trovo che la parola ‘accettazione’ dovrebbe essere utilizzata solo ed unicamente nel suo significato vero e proprio, definito dal dizionario della lingua italiana, e non usato per come viene inteso dalla maggior parte delle persone oggi. Dire ad una persona “Ti accetto per come sei” è un po’ come dirle “Guarda, tu hai queste caratteristiche che vanno al di fuori del comune, che non sono normali, però a me vai bene ugualmente” e questo è totalmente sbagliato, perché non esiste una persona giusta ed una sbagliata, una caratteristica che va bene e un’altra no. Ognuno di noi è diverso, il mondo è bello perché è vario e la bellezza dell’umanità sta proprio nel fatto che ognuno di noi ha le proprie caratteristiche ed i propri gusti. A mio parere bisognerebbe pensare prima di parlare ed imparare ad utilizzare meglio le parole, dando il peso giusto a ciò che si sta dicendo.

DIVERISITY

I have chosen the word “diversity”, in relation to this photo, to show that our idea of what is “different” is wrong. Many people use this word to describe what in their eyes looks strange, unusual, particular, sometimes even in a derogatory way, whether they are aware or not of what they want to convey, but the result is always the same. We are all different from each other, regardless of the culture, religion, city, country, state or nation we belong to. A beautiful definition that came out of our talks was “different, but equal”. Put in this way, these two words seem to be rather contradictory, but if we think about them, we can see that they take on their meaning together. It is right to say that we are all equal, especially if we take this term mainly from a political point of view, such as the laws, but also with regard to the rights and freedom that we should all benefit from just because we are human beings. It is also right to say that we are all different, but not in a derogatory sense; rather, it is our luck, our beauty. It is exactly because we have different qualities, physical features, abilities, ways of thinking and acting that we are unique and special. It is not a matter of being important, because what is important sooner or later vanishes leaving no traces of its passage; instead, we are special because we are necessary for each other to learn, know and understand who and what surrounds us, no matter if we admit it or not. What if we stop now and turn towards the first person in front of us – what will we see? We will see someone with a background, a past, a way of thinking, emotions, aesthetic, physical, moral characteristics, etc. different from ours. Each of us is at the same time different and unique, as well as equal and special. Saying the opposite would be like going against what is real and objective, and it would also mean that we do not get the point, we do not want to understand, and we want to deny what everyone knows deep down. Regarding the photo, I think it is a perfect representation of how we are all united, how we should help each other without prejudices, each one with their own set of qualities and defects, because we are not perfect – no one is. And this is exactly what makes us human.

Ho scelto di portare la parola “diversità” legata a questa foto per dimostrare che l’idea che ci siamo fatti del “diverso” è un’idea sbagliata. Molti usano questa parola per descrivere qualcosa che appare ai loro occhi strano, inusuale, particolare, a volte anche in maniera dispregiativa, essendo coscienti di ciò che vogliono trasmettere oppure non essendolo, ma il risultato rimane comunque uguale. Ognuno di noi, indipendentemente dal fatto di appartenere a un’altra cultura, religione, città, paese, stato o nazione, è diverso da un altro. Una bellissima definizione che era venuta fuori dai nostri discorsi era quella del “diverso ma uguale”. Queste due parole poste in questa maniera sembrerebbero alquanto contraddittorie, ma ragionandoci sopra si può osservare che anch’esse, insieme, assumono il loro significato. É giusto definirci tutti uguali, soprattutto se guardiamo questo termine da una prospettiva principalmente politica, come le leggi, ma anche riguardo i diritti e le libertà di cui tutti dovremmo godere per il semplice fatto di essere umani. É giusto anche definirci diversi, non in senso dispregiativo, anzi, è la nostra fortuna, è la nostra bellezza, è il nostro essere persone con qualità, fisionomie, capacità, modi di pensare e di agire diversi che rende ognuno di noi un individuo unico e speciale. Noi non siamo importanti, perché un qualcosa di importante prima o poi svanisce senza lasciare traccia del suo passaggio; noi siamo speciali, perché anche senza volerlo ammettere, siamo indispensabili l’uno per l’altro, per imparare, per conoscere, per capire chi e cosa ci circonda. Se ora ci fermassimo e girassimo la testa verso la prima persona che ci capita di fronte, cosa vedremo? Vedremo qualcuno con una storia, un passato, un modo di pensare, delle emozioni, dei tratti estetici, fisici, caratteriali, morali e molto altro, diversi da quello che siamo noi. Ognuno di noi è diverso e unico come è allo stesso tempo uguale e speciale; stabilire il contrario sarebbe andare contro a ciò che è reale e oggettivo, e questo non significherebbe non saper capire il concetto, significherebbe non voler capire e il voler rinnegare ciò che nel profondo ognuno conosce. Riguardo la foto credo che sia una perfetta rappresentazione di come tutti noi siamo uniti, di come dovremmo aiutarci l’uno con l’altro, senza pregiudizi, ognuno con il proprio bagaglio di pregi e di difetti, perché sì, non siamo perfetti, nessuno di noi lo è, ed è proprio questo che ci rende umani.

THIEF

Every day, we hear about these famous thieves, those stealing in our houses, banks, stores, or even our job. The most common stories, that are sensational news in small districts, are exactly burglaries. Through the tears of our neighbour who unfortunately was robbed, the angry screams of our grumpy friend, and our attempts to comfort the sweet granny in the apartment building, we hear this echo: “Always them, those Romanians”, or “Why can’t these Albanians just be bricklayers?”, or even “Oh, yes, always these Blacks, they steal our work and also our houses”, and many other silent comments within that deafening racket. We usually call burglars those thieves entering into our houses, and usually a burglar is a foreigner. The word burglar is a masculine, singular noun, but has it got an ethnicity? Every time we think of a burglar, why do we lead this sad figure back to some immigrant? Every time we scream “Burglar!”, why do our neighbours start to bet if they were Romanians or Moroccans? Is this the way we really think of burglars? Someone from another country? Apparently, yes. Ordinary comments on poor districts don’t spare bazaars and city squares full of life. How many times, between a cocktail and another, chatting in the sunset blurred by the warm lights of the city centre, we listen to some waiter or barman complaining about the crisis? An endless, eternal crisis that leads everyone to point a finger at some poor soul. Once we blamed debts, then the state, and now immigrants. Who will be next? So many comments like “Now even idiots work”, “Everyone cares about immigrants, but who cares about Italians?”, “They are all drug dealers”, “Wish they returned home, they don’t even know Italian”. These comments are so many, as much as the money spent for a night out in San Marco. And the waiter who served our cocktail, that we enjoyed so much in the middle of the most desperate and funniest comments, was a Romanian. That delicious dish that you had at the restaurant maybe was made exactly by a Nigerian, who is usually called “thief”. What did they rob? Did they rob your rights? Is it being a thief looking for a new opportunity of life in Italy? Is it being a thief working honestly to buy books for your children, still excited for their first day at school? Is it being a thief studying a totally new language and going to a private university? Apparently, yes. A thief is no longer a criminal, but a foreigner. This is what you can hear amid the laughter and sighs of many Italians. We were immigrants too, we were also invaders; but has someone called Italians thieves? No. Italians were the first to steal resources, money, hopes, and lives, together with many other nationalities, in a history that would be better to forget. We call thieves those we had robbed, not those who really are.

Ogni giorno al telegiornale sentiamo di questi famosi ladri, coloro che ci rubano in casa, in banca, al negozio o anche il lavoro. I racconti più comuni, che fanno scalpore nei piccoli quartieri, sono proprio i furti al domicilio. Tra i pianti del proprio vicino sfortunatamente derubato, le urla rabbiose dell’amico burbero ed i tentativi di consolazione della dolce nonnina del condominio, si sente questo riverbero “sempre loro, sti rumeni” oppure “ma sti albanesi non possono fare i muratori e basta?” O anche “ah si ormai son sempre questi neri, oltre al lavoro pure la casa ci svuotano” e tanti, ma tanti altri commenti silenziosi in quel chiasso assordante. Noi chiamiamo ladro chi ci entra in casa di solito, e sempre di solito questo ladro è straniero. La parola ladro è un sostantivo maschile singolare, ma ha un’etnia? Perché ogni volta che pensiamo al ladro, riconduciamo questa triste figura a qualche immigrato? Perché ogni volta che si urla al ladro, i vicini di casa iniziano a scommettere se fosse rumeno o marocchino? È davvero questo il ladro per noi? Una persona di un altro paese? A quanto pare si. Oltre ai commenti dei quartieri spesso sfortunati, pure i bar e le piazze piene di vita non sono da meno. Quante volte tra uno spritz e l’altro, chiacchierando nel tramonto offuscato dalle calde luci del centro, sentiamo i lamenti snervati di qualche dipendente o barista, commentare sulla crisi. Una crisi che non ha mai inizio ne fine, una crisi eterna che porta tutti a puntare il dito su qualche malcapitato. Prima era colpa dei debiti, poi dello stato ed ora degli immigrati, il prossimo chi sarà? Quanti sono quei commenti del tipo “ormai pure i dementi lavorano”, “pensano tutti agli immigrati, ma a noi italiani mai?”, “ma tanto questi spacciano e basta”, “che tornassero a casa loro, manco l’italiano sanno”. Sono tanti, tanti quanti i soldi che si spendono dopo una serata al bar di San Marco e proprio quello spritz, che ci siamo goduti con gusto tra i commenti più disperati e divertenti, ce l’ha portato un rumeno. Quel buonissimo piatto mangiato al ristorante, forse era stato fatto proprio dal nigeriano che tanto chiamiamo ladro. Ladro di cosa? Un ladro di diritti? Vuol dire essere ladro cercare una nuova opportunità di vita in Italia? Vuol dire essere ladro lavorare onestamente per comprare i libri ai propri figli, ancora emozionati per il loro primo giorno di scuola? Vuol dire essere ladro studiare una lingua totalmente nuova ed andare in una università privata? A quanto pare si. Il ladro non è più un delinquente, è lo straniero, questo è quello che si sente tra le risate e i sospiri di molti italiani. Anche noi siamo stati immigrati, anche noi siamo stati invasori, ma c’è qualcuno che chiama ladro un italiano? No. I primi a rubare risorse, soldi, speranze e vite siamo stati proprio noi, noi italiani nella storia, ma non solo noi, anche molti altri stati ci hanno accompagnato in questo passato da dimenticare. Chiamiamo ladri chi abbiamo derubato e non chi lo è davvero.

Stefano Tomassini

Stefano Tomassini è ricercatore presso l’Università Iuav di Venezia (I). In precedenza ha studiato Letteratura barocca italiana e teatro a Parma (BA) e Torino (PhD), nonché regista teatrale a Piacenza (ha ricevuto nel 2002 il premio dell’Associazione Nazionale della Critica Teatrale Italiana). La sua edizione critica di Salvatore Viganò, Prometeo. Libretto del ballo, con i testi della polemica, ha ricevuto il Premio Marino Moretti 1999. Dal 2013 al 2016 ha collaborato con il direttore artistico del settore Danza della Biennale di Venezia (I), e dal 2015 al 2019 è stato consulente e curatore di danza per il LAC (Lugano, CH). Nel 2017 è stato membro della giuria per i Dance Swiss Days 2019 (Losanna). Nel 2010 è stato Scholar-in-Residence presso l’Archivio del Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival (Lee, Mass.), per una ricerca sull’Archivio di Ted Shawn; e nel 2016 presso Scenario Pubblico – Centro Nazionale di Produzione della Danza (Catania, I), per un progetto sulla ricostruzione in danza. Attualmente è critico di danza per la rivista online Artribune. Il suo attuale progetto di scrittura riguarda le risposte coreografiche alla musica di J.S. Bach nel XX° secolo. I suoi interessi di ricerca includono anche l’intersezione tra danza, musica e studi sul suono nonché la connessione della performance con gli studi queer e la teoria critica. Ha ottenuto una fellowship presso UCL (Londra) e il Magdalen College (Oxford), presso la New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (Fulbright-Shuman Scholar Grant, 2008-2009) e la Columbia University (Italian Academy, 2011), ed è stato Visiting Lecturer presso la Princeton University (2010) e la Pennsylvania University (2018). Dal 2021 è socio onorario dell’associazione Danzare Cecchetti ANCEC Italia.

His scholarly interests also include the intersection of dance and sound studies and the connection of performance with queer studies and critical theory. He has held visiting fellowship at UCL (UK) and Magdalen College (Oxford), at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (Fulbright-Shuman Scholar Grant, 2008-2009) and Columbia University (Italian Academy, 2011), and has been a Visiting Lecturer at Princeton University (2010) and University of Pennsylvania (2018). Nikodimos Maina Kinyua

Nikodimos Maina Kinyua was born in 1977 in Kenya, and since 1985 he has lived in Greece, where an unsuspecting life path brought him. He grew up on a Dodecanese island, and from early on he had to actively claim his integration in the local community, and the society at large. Being a student at the final year of his secondary education, he visited Athens for the very first time, as elected representative at the First Session of the Youth Parliament. Since 1996 he lives permanently in Athens, dealing with immigration and human rights issues. In 2008, along with a group of friends, he co-founded ASANTE NGO, which has a rich artistic, social, and cultural activity. Nikodimos is an active member of the City of Athens Migrants Integration Council and has taken part in several legislative coordination and social integration projects, in collaboration with other migrants’ organizations. An active citizen, he shows a keen interest in public life and fights for the political participation of people with immigrant origin. Between 2016 and 2020 he worked for the integration and housing of refugees addressing the newcomers’ access to education and legalization processes, as well as their smooth coexistence with the local communities and the host society. Currently, along with a team of young and active people, he organizes the first tertiary institution (National Council of Migrants and Refugees) in an effort to strengthen the presence and the role of third-countries citizens, as well as of young Greek citizens of immigrant origin, for their political and social participation in both local and national governing bodies. Nikodimos Maina Kinyua is also a member of the Greek Forum of Refugees, the African Community, the City of Athens Migrants Integration Council, president of the ASANTE NGO, which deals with second-generation migrants, member of the Racial Violence Recording Network, and member and collaborator of DØCUMATISM.

Ο Νικόδημος Μαϊνα Κινυούα Γεννήθηκε το 1977 στην Κένυα, αλλά από το 1985, βρίσκεται στην Ελλάδα όπου τον έφερε ένα ανύποπτο μονοπάτι της ζωής. Μεγάλωσε σ’ ένα νησί της Δωδεκάνησου, και από πολύ νωρίς έπρεπε να δραστηριοποιηθεί ώστε να ενταχθεί στην τοπική αλλά και την ευρύτερη κοινωνία. Στην Γ’ Λυκείου έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα ως εκλεγμένος στην Πρώτη Σύνοδο της Βουλής των Εφήβων, και από το 1996 βρίσκεται πια μόνιμα στην Αθήνα και ασχολείται με τα θέματα των μεταναστών και των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων. Μαζί με μια ομάδα φίλων ίδρυσαν το 2008, την Οργάνωση ASANTE, με πλούσια καλλιτεχνική, κοινωνική και πολιτιστική δραστηριότητα. Είναι ενεργό μέλος του Συμβουλίου Ένταξης Μεταναστών του Δήμου Αθηναίων, και έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλά προγράμματα νομοθετικού συντονισμού και κοινωνικής ένταξης μεταναστών σε συνεργασία και με άλλες μεταναστευτικές οργανώσεις. Ένας πολίτης δραστήριος, που ενδιαφέρεται για τα κοινά, και αγωνίζεται για την πολιτική συμμετοχή των πολιτών μεταναστευτικής καταγωγής, Από το 2016 μέχρι και το 2020 εργάστηκε για την ένταξη και στέγαση των προσφύγων ενισχύοντας την πρόσβαση των νεοαφιχθέντων στην εκπαίδευση, τις νομιμοποιητικές διαδικασίες και την ομαλή συνύπαρξη με την τοπική κοινωνία και την κοινωνία υποδοχής. Σήμερα με μία ομάδα νέων και δραστήριων ανθρώπων οργανώνει για πρώτη φορά το πρώτο τριτοβάθμιο όργανο (Εθνικό Συμβούλιο Μεταναστών και Προσφύγων) σε μία προσπάθεια να ενισχυθεί η παρουσία και ο ρόλος των πολιτών τρίτων χωρών αλλά και οι νέοι έλληνες πολίτες με μεταναστευτική καταγωγή για την πολιτική και κοινωνική συμμετοχή στον πρώτο και δεύτερο βαθμό της τοπικής αυτοδιοίκηση αλλά και σε εθνικό επίπεδο. Ο Νικόδημος Μαϊνα Κινυούα είναι ακόμη μέλος του Φόρουμ Προσφύγων, μέλος της Αφρικανικής Κοινότητα, μέλος του Συμβουλίου Ένταξης Μεταναστών του Δήμου Αθηναίων, Πρόεδρος της Οργάνωση ASANTE που δραστηριοποιείται στη δεύτερη γενιά μεταναστών, μέλος του δικτύου καταγραφής περιστατικών Ρατσιστικής Βίας, μέλος της Κενυάτικης κοινότητας Ελλάδος, μέλος και συνεργάτης της DØCUMATISM.

Performance artist and researcher. Non-binary lesbian. Natalio is a PhD candidate in Art Studies and Anthropology with a focus on the Anthropocene and perceptions of humanity-nature. She works primarily with poetry, dramaturgy and performance, and is presently involved with the creation of a series of lecture-performances (“Anthroposcenes” 2017, “Geophagy” 2018, “Fossil” 2020) that are directly linked to her research on climate change and art practice. In 2019 Rita co-organised a festival of Amerindian cinema with indigenous filmmakers and curators along at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. She holds a BA in Choreographic Arts (University Paris VIII) and a MA in Contemporary Culture and is co-editor of a Portugal-based publishing project, Ed. __________, which is dedicated to the performing arts and a broader range of aesthetic and political studies.

Artista e pesquisador. Lésbica não-binária. Os seus espaços de prática relacionam poesia, escrita ensaística e performance. Doutoranda em Estudos Artísticos (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) e Antropologia (Universidade de São Paulo), pesquisa desde 2014, o recente debate sobre o conceito de Antropoceno e o seu impacto sobre a redefinição disciplinar e estética das relações entre arte, política e ecologia. Estudou Artes do Espetáculo Coreográfico ( Paris VIII) e é mestre em Psicologia pela PUC-SP onde estudou as relações entre imitação e invenção na obra de Gabriel Tarde. A partir da sua pesquisa doutoral, realizou uma série de conferências-performance, entre elas “Antropocenas” (2017) com João dos Santos Martins, “Geofagia” (2018) e “Fóssil” (2020). Em 2019 co-organizou “Ameríndia: percursos do cinema indígena no Brasil” na Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, uma mostra que trouxe 5 cineastas indígenas a Portugal e apresentou mais de 30 filmes de produção indígena. Co-organiza, com André e.Teodósio, uma chancela editorial Ed.______ que resulta da parceria Sistema Solar/Teatro Praga e que tem como foco as artes performativas e os sistemas de poder e protesto na atualidade. Colabora regularmente com o jornal de artes performativas Coreia.

Myrto Lavda

Myrto Lavda studied Art History, earning a master’s degree in Art Education from Teachers College of Columbia University in New York. She has received scholarships from the Columbia University, the Fulbright Foundation in Greece and the Vassilis and Eliza Goulandris Foundation. She has worked in the Department of Educational Programs of the Museum of Modern Art in New York “MoMA” and the Museum of Cycladic & Ancient Greek Art in Athens. From August 2010 to December 2020, she was the Head of the Department of Educational Programs of the Onassis Stegi. She has designed and developed programs focusing on various forms of art – such as visual arts, theater, dance, music, new media – which were addressed to toddlers, children, teens and adults, people with and without disabilities and people over 65 years old, as well as programs for primary and secondary schools. Since 2021 she continues her collaboration with the Onassis Foundation as an external consultant, curator and researcher for educational activities that are part of European Networks. She also works as a freelancer designing and organizing educational, artistic and cultural programs, in collaboration with artists and organizations in Athens and around Greece.

Η Μυρτώ Λάβδα σπούδασε Ιστορία Τέχνης, με μεταπτυχιακό στη Διδακτική της Τέχνης από το Teachers College του Columbia University της Νέας Υόρκης, έχοντας αποσπάσει υποτροφίες από το ίδιο το Πανεπιστήμιο, το Ίδρυμα Fulbright στην Ελλάδα και το Ίδρυμα Βασίλη και Ελίζας Γουλανδρή. Έχει εργαστεί στο Τμήμα Εκπαιδευτικών Προγραμμάτων του Μουσείου Μοντέρνας Τέχνης της Νέας Υόρκης “MoMA” και του Μουσείου Κυκλαδικής και Αρχαίας Ελληνικής Τέχνης στην Αθήνα. Από τον Αύγουστο του 2010 έως το Δεκέμβριο του 2020 ήταν Υπεύθυνη του Τμήματος Εκπαιδευτικών Προγραμμάτων της Στέγης του Ιδρύματος Ωνάση. Έχει σχεδιάσει και αναπτύξει προγράμματα με επίκεντρο τις διαφορετικές τέχνες – όπως εικαστικά, θέατρο, χορό, μουσική, νέα μέσα – για βρέφη, παιδιά, εφήβους και ενήλικες, προγράμματα για σχολεία πρωτοβάθμιας και δευτεροβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης, καθώς και δράσεις που εστιάζουν σε άτομα με και χωρίς αναπηρία και άτομα άνω των 65 ετών. Από το 2021 συνεχίζει τη συνεργασία της με το Ίδρυμα Ωνάση ως εξωτερική σύμβουλος, επιμελήτρια και ερευνήτρια για εκπαιδευτικές δράσεις που εντάσσονται σε Ευρωπαϊκά Δίκτυα. Εργάζεται επίσης ως ανεξάρτητη επαγγελματίας για τον σχεδιασμό και την οργάνωση εκπαιδευτικών, καλλιτεχνικών και πολιτιστικών προγραμμάτων, σε συνεργασία με καλλιτέχνες και φορείς στην Αθήνα και στην Περιφέρεια.

Theo Prodromidis (b. 1979, Thessaloniki, Greece) is a visual artist and director based in Athens, Greece. He studied Contemporary Media Practice at the University of Westminster and was awarded an MFA in Fine Art by Goldsmiths, University of London in 2007. His work has been exhibited and screened in galleries, museums and festivals such as 3rd Industrial Art Biennial, Furtherfield, Galerija Nova, State of Concept, 5th and 1st Thessaloniki Biennale, 4th Athens Biennale, i.a. Since 2017, he has contributed to The School of Redistribution by Future Climates, to Project P.R.E.S.S. (Provision of Refugee Education and Support Scheme) by Hellenic Open University and part of WHW Akademija’s program “To care for another, radical politics of care” and as member of the Institute Of Radical Imagination he co-organises The School of Mutation. For 2020-2021, he is the co-leader of “An album from our square” at Victoria Square Project, supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI) at Columbia University and a fellow of AFIELD Mentorship 2020 by Council, for the participatory project “Laying down law”.

Foutini Gouseti is a visual artist and PhD Candidate in Anthropology at the Department of History, Archeology and Social Anthropology at the University of Thessaly. She holds a B.F.A. in Painting and a B.F.A. in Printmaking from the Athens School of Fine Arts (Greece); and an M.F.A. from the Dutch Art Institute (the Netherlands). She also has many years of teaching experience and experimentation in primary and secondary education. Gouseti’s artistic practice and academic research explore the role of art in society. She is mainly interested in researching the notion of the Other, and focuses on colonial manners of cultural and socio-political influence in local/peripheral fields, divided memory, gender, social class, collective trauma and the local in relation to the world. The diverse artistic outcome of her projects is presented in various artistic and academic contexts worldwide. Her doctoral studies are funded by the Greek State’s Scholarship Foundation (I.K.Y.).

Η Φωτεινή Γουσέτη είναι εικαστική καλλιτέχνιδα και Υποψήφια Διδακτόρισσα Ανθρωπολογίας στο Τμήμα Ιστορίας, Αρχαιολογίας και Κοινωνικής Ανθρωπολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας. Είναι κάτοχος δύο πτυχίων, στη Ζωγραφική και τη Χαρακτική, από την Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας (Ελλάδα) καθώς και Μεταπτυχιακού Διπλώματος στις Καλές Τέχνες (MFA) από το Dutch Art Institute (Ολλανδία). Έχει πολυετή εμπειρία διδασκαλίας και πειραματισμού στην πρωτοβάθμια και δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση. Η καλλιτεχνική πρακτική και η ακαδημαϊκή της έρευνα εξετάζουν το ρόλο που παίζει η τέχνη στην κοινωνία. Magd Asaad

Magd was born in 1980 in Syria. His childhood dream was to be an artist. He fled to Greece at the end of 2004 after threats to his life. He has worked as an interpreter, and is now focussing on his artistic career. The elements that make up the complex worlds of his works – the strange characters and crazy situations – are the expressions of his thoughts and feelings, arising from his imagination and memories. He transforms reality into fantasy and fantasy into reality, painting freely, randomly, madly, with passion; following where his hand leads him, not following rules: he has always refused to submit to the conventions and traditions that people follow fanatically. For him, a work of art is more interesting when he is not directly in control of the process and the images emerge intuitively. Painting, he says, is in his blood.

Ο Μαγκντ γεννήθηκε το 1980 στη Συρία. Το παιδικό του όνειρο ήταν να γίνει καλλιτέχνης. Διέφυγε στην Ελλάδα στα τέλη του 2004 μετά από απειλές για τη ζωή του. Έχει εργαστεί ως διερμηνέας και πλέον εστιάζει στην καλλιτεχνική του σταδιοδρομία. Τα στοιχεία που συγκροτούν τους περίπλοκους κόσμους των έργων του –οι αλλόκοτοι χαρακτήρες και οι τρελές καταστάσεις– αποτελούν εκφράσεις των σκέψεων και των συναισθημάτων του, που πηγάζουν από τη φαντασία και τις αναμνήσεις του. Μετασχηματίζει την πραγματικότητα σε φαντασία και τη φαντασία σε πραγματικότητα, ζωγραφίζοντας ελεύθερα, τυχαία, τρελά, παθιασμένα, ακολουθώντας το χέρι του εκεί όπου τον οδηγεί, χωρίς να ακολουθεί κανόνες: αρνιόταν πάντα να υποταχθεί στις συμβάσεις και τις παραδόσεις που ακολουθεί φανατικά ο κόσμος. Για αυτόν, ένα έργο τέχνης είναι πιο ενδιαφέρον όταν δεν έχει άμεσα υπό τον έλεγχό του τη διαδικασία και οι εικόνες προκύπτουν διαισθητικά. Η ζωγραφική, όπως λέει, κυλάει στο αίμα του.

ASSABESI

Elliptical denomination referred to traditional desserts from Turin (“Assabese cake”, “Assabese biscuit”). A lexeme that historically dates back to the Italian colonisation of the port city of Assab (Eritrea) in 1881. In particular, “Assabesi biscuits” made with cocoa shortcrust pastry, “attested by advertising in newspapers in the early months of 1885”, are “to be put in direct relationship with the Italian General Exposition of Turin (1884)”. On that occasion, a group of six Africans from the Assab region, “consisting of three men, a woman, and two children” were exhibited as exotic attractions[1]. Re-semanticization proposal The re-semanticization of the word “Assabesi” (biscuits) suggests some form of appropriation of the recipe by an individual/community currently located in Assab. Potential rewriting of the recipe (ingredients, procedure, form). The opportunity to keep the name in the Italian language as a mnemonic trace of the past, or rather to translate it into the language of the place where the recipe is prepared, should be evaluated. The recipe of Assabesi biscuits taken from Ciocca’s cookbook[2]. Semolina flour kg 3,500 Powdered sugar kg 1,200 Butter kg 2,300 Hazelnut powder kg 0,600 Cocoa kg 0,500 Eggs n. 8 Make the dough as a shortcrust pastry, then use a notched syringe to model many small biscuits 6 or 7 cm long.

Denominazione ellittica riferita a dolci di tradizione torinese (torta assabese, biscotto assabese). Lessema risalente storicamente alla colonizzazione italiana della città portuale di Assab (Eritrea) nel 1881. In particolare i “biscotti assabesi” in pasta frolla al cacao, «attestati dalla pubblicità sui giornali nei primi mesi del 1885», sono «da mettere in relazione diretta con l’“Esposizione Generale italiana di Torino”» (1884). In quell’occasione un gruppo di sei africani della regione di Assab, «costituito da tre uomini, una donna e due bambini» furono esposti come attrazione esotica. 1 Proposta di risemantizzazione La risemantizzazione della parola “assabesi” (biscotti) ipotizza una qualche forma di appropriazione della ricetta da parte di un individuo/comunità situata oggi a Assab. Possibile riscrittura della ricetta (ingredienti, procedura, forma). Da valutare l’opportunità di mantenere la denominazione nella lingua italiana come traccia mnemonica del passato storico, o piuttosto tradurla nella lingua del luogo in cui viene preparata la ricetta. Di seguito viene trascritta la ricetta degli Assabesi tratta dal ricettario di Ciocca 2 Farina di semola kg 3, 500 Zucchero in polvere kg 1, 200 Burro kg 2, 300 Polvere di nocciole kg 0, 600 Cacao kg 0, 500 Uova n. 8 Si fa l’impasto come una pasta frolla, si passa per una siringa dentellata, modellando tanti biscottini lunghi 6 o 7 cm.

DIFFERENT

“Different from whom?” Or what?” – this is a thought that troubles me. The word “different” comes from the Latin word diversus, past participle of the verb divertere, which means “to divert”. If you search it in the dictionary, you can find many synonyms, including “distinct”, “dissimilar”, “diverse”, “unequal”, “divergent”, “unusual”, “singular”, “strange”… Here, strange! This last word is often associated to or replaced by “different” to define something even bad; it does not always have a positive sense, and in most cases, when we think of something strange and different from us, from the world we know and what surrounds us, we also see these things as bad and wicked. I think that in reality, at that moment, humans are simply very scared, because they have to get away from their comfort zone, from what they know well, to open their minds to something that is unknown. Yet, without these small steps in the dark, there would have been no evolution for humans; they would have never improved, experimented, or invented, not even explored. Over the centuries, scholars and writers from all over the world have always tried to reshape and innovate human thought, especially philosophers have always tried to push humanity to take a step forward, to open their minds, and go beyond limits. In this case, I consider Pirandello as one of the most important authors for us Italians – through his theatre, the portrayal of the grotesque, and the analysis of his contemporaries, he was able to reshape the word “different”. Actually, he never mentioned this word, but he implied it several times and in various forms. The man of his time is a man dominated by society, labels, ways of living and doing; he wears infinite masks according to the place where he is and the people he is with, but no one knows his real face; perhaps, not even himself. He is persuaded that what he does is right as it is, and changing it would be insane. Whoever chose to see things differently or decided to go against the tide – someone that today we would define as a black sheep – would have been defined as crazy, because everyone would have seen them as “different”, not homologated to the time and space they lived in. But, Pirandello believed that the true nature of humans lay exactly in this madness. After all, “different” should underline this: our diversity from our classmates, colleagues, friends; different habits, families, visions, attires, genders, life styles, and traditions. Being different makes each of us unique, in our own way, and allows us to learn from others, increasing our knowledge and cultural experience. “Different” should become and be understood as a compliment, with a positive meaning, like an added value, because at the end, under our skin colour, we all have white bones, red blood, striated muscles, and a heart beating in the same way.

“Diverso da chi? o da cosa?”, questo è il pensiero che mi tormenta. La parola DIVERSO deriva dal latino diversus, participio passato del verbo divertere che vuol dire DEVIARE. Se cercato nel vocabolario ha molti sinonimi tra cui differente, difforme, dissimile, distinto, disuguale, divergente, insolito, singolare, strano… Ecco, strano! Quest’ultima parola spesso viene accostata o sostituita a diverso per definire qualcosa anche di brutto, ha non sempre una accezione positiva e nella maggior parte dei casi quando pensiamo a qualcosa di strano e diverso da noi, dal mondo che conosciamo, da ciò che ci circonda, consideriamo sempre queste cose come negative, malvagie, brutte. Penso che in realtà l’uomo sia soltanto molto spaventato in quel momento perché deve allontanarsi da una zona di confort, da un qualcosa che conosce bene, per aprire la mente a qualcosa che è sconosciuto, ignoto. Eppure senza questi piccoli passi nel vuoto l’uomo non si sarebbe mai evoluto, non sarebbe migliorato, non avrebbe sperimentato o inventato, non avrebbe esplorato. Durante i secoli i letterati e gli scrittori di tutto il mondo hanno sempre cercato di rimodulare e innovare il pensiero dell’uomo, in particolar modo i filosofi hanno sempre cercato di spingere l’uomo a fare un passo avanti, ad aprire la mente, ad andare oltre. Ritengo che uno degli autori più importanti per noi italiani, in questo caso, sia stato Pirandello, il quale attraverso il suo teatro, la sua raffigurazione del grottesco e l’analisi dei cittadini del suo tempo, ha saputo rimodulare la parola DIVERSO. Non nomina mai effettivamente questa parola, ma ce la lascia intendere svariate volte e sotto svariate forme. L’uomo del suo tempo è un uomo succube della società, dell’etichetta, dei modi di vivere e dei modi di fare, indossa infinite maschere a seconda del luogo in cui si trova e delle persone che frequenta, ma nessuno conosce il suo vero volto, forse nemmeno lui stesso. Si autoconvince che ciò che fa sia giusto così com’è e che cambiarlo sarebbe una pazzia; colui che sceglieva di vedere le cose in modo differente dalla massa, colui che decideva di andare contro corrente, colui che oggi definiremo una pecora nera, sarebbe stato definito pazzo perché agli occhi di tutti sarebbe stato DIVERSO, non omologato al tempo e al luogo in cui si trovava, ma proprio in questa pazzia Pirandello credeva risiedesse la vera indole di un uomo. In fondo DIVERSO dovrebbe sottolineare questo, la nostra diversità dai compagni di classe, dai colleghi, da un amico; diverse abitudini, famiglie, concezioni mentali; diversi abbigliamenti, diversi generi, diversi stili di vita, diverse tradizioni. L’essere diversi rende ognuno di noi, a suo modo, unico e permette ad ognuno di noi di poter imparare dagli altri accrescendo la propria conoscenza ed il proprio bagaglio culturale. DIVERSO dovrebbe diventare ed essere inteso come un complimento, con accezione positiva, come un valore aggiunto, perché in fondo, sotto il colore della pelle abbiamo tutti le ossa bianche, il sangue rosso, i muscoli striati ed un cuore che batte allo stesso modo.

In his photographic work, Délio Jasse often interweaves found images with clues from past lives (passport photos, newspapers) to draw links between photography – in particular the concept of the ‘latent image’ – and memory. Jasse is known for experimenting with analogue photographic printing processes, including cyanotype and platinum, as well as developing his own printing techniques. He uses analogue processes to subvert the reproducibility of the photographic medium, creating subtle variants and interventions using painting, liquid-light, gold-leafing and collage. Nel suo lavoro fotografico, Délio Jasse intreccia spesso immagini ritrovate con le tracce di vite passate (passaporti, telegrammi, giornali) per creare dei collegamenti tra la fotografia – in particolare il concetto di “immagine latente” – e la memoria. Jasse sperimenta con i processi di stampa fotografica analogica, tra cui cianotipia e platino, oltre a sviluppare le proprie tecniche di stampa. Utilizza processi analogici per sovvertire la riproducibilità del mezzo fotografico, creando varianti impercettibili e intervenendo sulle immagini utilizzando pittura, foglia d’oro e collage. L’Università Iuav di Venezia, fondata nel 1926 come una delle prime Scuole di Architettura in Italia, è un’università di progettazione incentrata sulla didattica, la ricerca e la pratica nella progettazione di spazi, ambienti e oggetti di uso quotidiano, moda e grafica.
